Cosy sitting room the Norwegian way

There's a distinctive chill in the air here in Southern Sweden (how about where you are?) and I've noticed people are starting to get out their cosy knits BRRRRR! When I feel a nip in the air it always makes me romanticise about long walks in the snow followed by a steaming cup of hot chocolate (with a touch of rum) while thawing feet by the fire. This sitting room from the home of Norwegian blogger and photographer Elisabeth Heier is a firm favourite - just look at that wood burning stove and log storage!

Elisabeth Heier with kind permission

I love the hall way too - I think that's a House Doctor rug - beautiful!

I'm a big fan of Elisabeth's styling and photography (as you well know!) and have posted on her home before here and here. So beautiful!

If you're on the look out for wood burning stoves as I am check out these homes....

PS I loved the discussion on Facebook yesterday on 'all white homes' so many different opinions!

Have a lovely, cosy day!

A white Skåne home with a fabulous woodburner

I love keeping an eye out on homes for sale here in Skåne. And just occasionally I come across a real gem (thanks Stil Inspiration for this tip!). It's no secret that I love white (don't we all?!) but I also dream of having a wood burning stove one day too. I love the stark contrast of this one against all the pale wood and white walls. I could live here, could you?!

I spy Eames DSR chairs (15% off with code MYSCAN), the Lightyears Caravaggio lamp in the kitchen and Gubi Semi Pendant lamp over the dining table. A few IKEA pieces too; the clock, urban chairs and foot stall in the kitchen. Great mix of designer and highstreet!

Meanwhile, I'm compiling a fireplace moodboard on Pinterest, and using these beautiful homes with fireplaces as inspiration. Sooooo cosy!

Have a lovely day!

White, cognac and blue in a Swedish apartment

When I look at this apartment in Gothenburg, Sweden I think fresh, relaxed and warm.  I'm also a long term fan of the colour scheme blue, white and cognac and not many do it better than stylists and estate agents Alvhem. I could certainly see my self padding around here and reading a book in one of the pools of light, couldn't you?

The 'Kakelugn' or tiled fireplace is another element I could imagine having in my dream cottage but it would need to be in addition to the wood burning stove!

For more fabulous Swedish apartment inspiration with a kakelugn try here and here and for an incredible danish one here.

I'm starting to feel I can no longer live without a fireplace, hmmmm what to do?! Perhaps you can help me figure out where to put one from the first part in my mini weekly series 'my home captured by Karin' tomorrow? A little nervous about showing my home, as always!

Have a lovely day!

My dream cottage would never be without......

Hi, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend?  Admittedly I spent some of Sunday thinking about how I could go about acquiring a Swedish cottage in the woods! I realised I've nailed two things about this future cottage and how I would renovate it. 1. it will be mostly white inside and 2. it will have a wood burning stove.  Here's my inspiration.

(If you fancy a little more Fireplace inspiration you can always check out my fireplace board on Pinterest).

Yesterday I was eyeing up this Skånegård house near Simrishamn - ooooo how I'd love to put my personal stamp on a home like this...and what about that stunning garden?! Or perhaps you'd prefer a Swedish cottage on it's own private island like this one? I definitely wouldn't say no!

PS On Saturday it was so great to finally meet Peggy of children's design and lifestyle blog Paul & Paula and her fabulous family (as you can imagine, they were wearing the coolest children's clothes, ever!), welcome to Sweden!

Have a lovely day!

A Swedish home in greys, white and black

In Sweden it's hard to get short of interior inspiration when you have estate agents that take such care over their home styling and photography. This Stockholm apartment is on the market through Fantastic Frank. They've cleverely bled the images to even out the colour scheme and brought the apartment to life by laying the table in the kitchen, and adding items such as the coffee cups on the coffee table and the shoes in the hall.

I love the grey tones and the original features such as the Kakelugn in the sitting room (love the horse cushion in the chair next to it too!). What about you?

In my home there are always many, many, many 'signs of life'.....:) one day I'll have a permanently tidy home, really I will. What about you?!
