Could you go all out geometric?

At the start of the week you're a allowed to go a little all out don't you think?! That's why I wanted to share this home in The Jardine district of Sao Paulo with you. The space belongs to a young lawyer who returned to Brazil after a spate in Italy.  He commissioned famous architect Filipe Hess to renovate his newly acquired apartment to it's orginal 1950's former glory and at the same time reflect the relaxed European lifestyle he so enjoyed in Italy. The result is a beautiful mix of mid-century and industrial. And not a corner without a geometric pattern of some sort. Kind of cool don't you think?

I am in love with the kitchen and bathroom floor, how about you? You can source geometric floor tiles here (any other tips?). 

Or  simply add some patterned accessories from the likes of Norsu or OYOY.  And for the colour shy and the non-comitted I came across this fab monochrome  peel and stick, removable honeycomb wallpaper.

A Danish home with a warm soul and quirky touches

Here in Southern Sweden there's a winter storm on it's way (again). I think there's something kind of cosy about being indoors while the wind howls outside, don't you? Plus it creates time for all those projects. This Danish space belongs to Dorthe Kvist, a landscape gardener, stylist, and interior designer and her husband and two children. Situated in Vanlose, Denmark. the family home is perfect inspiration for this type of weekend since many of the items within (shelves, tables etc) have been made by hand. The space has also been decorated using a mix of sentimental items such as photos, inherited furniture and flea market finds as well as modern ceramics and quirky touches.  The result is a cosy, personal space with plenty of soul. I could ride out a storm here, how about you?

There's just so much to take in from these images - but I think my favourite thing about this home is the use of colour from pastel pinks to bright yellow. How about you?

And one final project for the weekend - I'm fascinated by the VIPP shelter -apparently it's hidden somewhere in the forests of Sweden and VIPP are going to hold a competition to guess where it is. I wonder if the shelter is the prize? If so, I'm putting my running shoes on.

A relaxed, bohemian space in Stockholm

This relaxed, boho apartment in Stockholm has been furnished with a mix of mid-century, industrial and contemporary Scandinavian.  It's the kind of place i cold see myself instantly feeling at home in. I particularly love the day bed and step ladder as a bed side table. One other thing I noticed was the wiring / cables. Usually homes are styled within an inch of their lives so cables are either hidden or photo-shopped out. In this case they're entirely visible - and I have to say, it's kind of refreshing. Although it hasn't stopped me from providing a few cool cable tips below!

Back to the cables! If like me, your power chords are a bit of a battle, the best thing to do would be to get them chased into the wall by an electrician. But the good news is there are other cool ways with wires. Here's my round-up of fab DIY ideas:

Go all in with a neon power cord (I also love these colourful cables)
Jazz up a wire with coloured tape
Hide them behind wooden beads
Neaten up extra cable length with cord tacos.

A fab Amsterdam apartment

This is my second dutch home tour of the week (see the other one here). I really do love the Dutch style. It's incredibly similar to Swedish decor with the white floors and walls, but the Dutch tend to go for more bright pops of colour. This home, spotted over at wonderful blog French By Design, in the heart of Amsterdam belongs to interior designer / stylist Brechtje Troost. It follows the general Dutch design rule with the white backdrop and bursts of colour but it also features a fab mid-century twist. And wait - I even spot a Swedish print! An apartment truly deserved of the coveted Friday my scandinavian home tour spot, don't you think?!

For classic mid-century furniture try auction houses Lauritz and Live Auctioneers. I love the cognac tote (similar one here). I'm not sure if it's possible to find a kitty cat as cute as that one though....?

Do you know what I'm noticing more and more of? Wall to wall carpets! Now, I know that in the UK and the US it's extremely common to have carpets in the home, especially in more cosy rooms such as the bedroom and sitting room. But I was amazed to hear a Swedish friend who is currently planning to add carpets to all the bedrooms in her new home. This is something of a revolution. Could it be one of the big trends for 2015?!

A Malmö apartment with a mid-century touch

Well hello there Monday! I hope you had a great weekend?! It's half term here in Southern Sweden so I'm gearing up for a trip to London later this week - sooo excited! Are you up to anything fun? Today I'd like to share this lovely apartment here in Malmö with you. There's just something about it I love - could it be the mid-century touches? Most likely! But also the elements of surprise such as the bright floral printed cushion against the green harlequin wallpaper in the hall or the pom poms in the bedroom. So pretty! What do you love about this home?

A few items I know and love: Prints: apple papple, pirum parum, Martin Lannering insect alphabet. String shelves. Hay industrial lamp. 

I know it sounds crazy but my family and I are already talking about what to do next summer! I think it's because the days are getting so short. A few weeks ago I received a mail about Villa Pia in Lippiano, between Tuscany and Umbria in Italy. I immediately started dreaming about sipping a cappuccino while looking out over the olive groves, vineyards and a 10th century castle in the distance. And Villa Pia sounds totally family friendly too. The 5 acre grounds offer two swimming pools, play areas and a trampoline. And children are welcome to join cookery and art classes (my girls would be in heaven!). And for us adults they offer cookery classes, pilates and wine tasting (I guess not all at the same time!) among other things. Could I have found my summer vacation 2015?!

A Swedish apartment with a mid-century touch

I do love a touch of mid-century in a home. And this space in Gothenburg has blended it in with some contemporary Scandinavian pieces so incredibly well. Just look at that mid-century cabinet paired with a Hay strap mirror and brass lamp next to a set of String system shelving. What a great combination!

I think this is the third time this week we've seen a black and white kitchen - your style or not? For some alternative kitchen inspiration I have over 1300 beautiful kitchen and dining spaces (yes really! Sign of a slight Pinterest addiction?!) hoarded on my Kitchen Pinterest board.

And there's that wonderful cross blanket again. This time draped over a very cool vintage leather sofa.

A relaxed family home in the Australian countryside

The weekend calls for a super relaxed home where you feel you can just kick off your shoes and be completely yourself doesn't it?! So today I'd like to share this laid back, retro family home in the Australian countryside with you. The owners photographer Jessica Tremp and Michael Madden and child Syd only moved in a few months ago but they've already put their personal stamp on the space. Art (mainly by Jessica's father), big leafed plants, yellow accent colours and mid century teak furniture make up the look. There's something that feels incredibly warm about this lovely family home don't you think?

Is there anything you particularly love about this home?

Yesterday I started an evening class in interior design. The aim of the course is to learn how to plan a room from scratch. We spent the evening creating mood boards: ripping pictures out of magazines (interior, fashion and nature) which we felt had the right 'feel' whether they were of a bird, a lamp or a skirt flowing in the wind and sticking them onto an A3 board. The result amazed me. The colours and feel of the room bounced from the board and I could really see the embryo of my new room. So exciting! I can definitely recommend this process to you if you're planning on re-decorating a room in your home.  More tips from next week's session....
